Potassium hydroxide
Potassium hydroxide or potash (KOH) is white flakes, lentil-shaped granules or pieces with a fractured crystal structure. This reagent is also called Caustic Potassium. Potassium Hydrate is highly hygroscopic, readily soluble in water and alcohol; quickly absorbs carbon dioxide and water from the air and gradually turns into potassium carbonate. Caustic potash is obtained by diaphragm electrolysis of a potassium chloride solution.
Application – Potassium hydroxide
Potassium hydroxide is used in the production of fertilizers, synthetic rubber, plastics, electrolytes for batteries, reagents, xanthates, for leaching of steel castings, for maintaining the alkalinity of drilling fluids within specified limits, in the production of biodiesel fuel as a catalyst, in the production of detergents and fertilizers, and is also used in the pharmaceutical industry and other sectors of the economy.
