Description
Copper sulfate (Blue vitriol)
Copper sulfate (blue vitriol, copper sulphate, cupric sulphate) is a powder with a blue tint, quickly soluble in water. It has the chemical formula CuSO₄. Widely used in gardening to kill pests and protect plants from fungal diseases. Copper sulphate belongs to fungicides – chemical preparations intended to treat plants from diseases and control pests and insects. In addition, an important purpose of blue vitriol is its use as a microfertilizer for the soil. It replenishes copper deficiency. Recommended for application to peatlands, which usually contain insufficient amounts of copper. As part of chemical preparations, copper sulfate is used to purify water in swimming pools, fountains, and reservoirs. It is suitable for combating all types of algae: fibrous, planktonic and branched. Copper sulphate can be used as a feed additive.
Application
Due to its unique composition, copper sulfate has found wide application in many industries:
- textile (when dyeing fabrics);
- chemical (in the manufacture of iron pigments and other iron salts);
- electronic (when working with printed circuit boards);
- environmental (for wastewater treatment);
- food (improved flour for making bakery products);
- publishing production (as a reagent in photography);
- jewelry production;
- metallurgy (for metalworking);
- brewery
