Polyamide (Caprolon)

Polyamide or caprolon is a material related to polymers, which is used in various parts and structural elements in order to reduce the frictional impact and reduce the time for producing parts and their cost. PA-6 has a low coefficient of friction when interacting with various metal surfaces. Polyamide can replace most parts made of bronze and steel because it has high strength characteristics and is 7-8 times lighter than these metals. The use of this material reduces wear of contacting parts by 2 times and increases the service life of products in proportion to this indicator. In parallel with this, as mentioned earlier, the complexity of manufacturing parts and their cost are reduced.

It is resistant to various gasolines, oils, and alcohols.

Material characteristics:

Caprolon has a low coefficient of friction when paired with any metals, therefore it can be processed efficiently and quickly, and is 6-7 times lighter than bronze and steel, in place of which it can be installed. Products made from caprolon reduce the wear of friction pairs by 2 times, correspondingly increasing the service life of products by 1.5 times, reduce the labor intensity of manufacturing by 35%, and reduce the cost by 50% compared to products made of metal (steel and bronze).

Temperature range of use from -40 to +120 C.

  • high mechanical strength
  • elasticity
  • heat resistance
  • low coefficient of friction
  • low moisture absorption (three times less than PA-6)
  • high heat resistance
  • good machinability by all mechanical means

Application of polyamide, caprolon:

Polyamide (caprolon) has been used for over 30 years in mechanical engineering, shipbuilding, energy, chemical, oil and pulp and paper industries. Resistant to hydrocarbons, oils, alcohols, ketones, ethers, alkalis, and weak acids. Chemically resistant, non-toxic, used in equipment for the food industry. Caprolon has high chemical resistance.

Polyamide (caprolon) is allowed for production in equipment for the food industry, and is allowed for contact with food and drinking water. Parts made of polyamide (caprolon) are almost an order of magnitude lighter than the steel and bronze products in which they are installed, which allows the service life to be doubled. Due to its high electrical insulating and spark-extinguishing properties, as well as resistance to galvanic corrosion, caprolon is ideal for the manufacture of electrical parts – connectors, coils, switches, relays, etc.

Mechanical processing of caprolon:

Polyamide PA-6, caprolon must be thermally treated before mechanical processing to relieve internal stresses that arise in the material during its polymerization. Heat treatment of workpieces is necessary before manufacturing critical parts to prevent deformation and cracking. Operating temperature range from – 40°C to +70°C.
