Organic glass

Organic glass (acrylic glass) obtained by extrusion is called extruded.
The essence of the method is as follows: the initial raw material – polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) in granular form is loaded into an apparatus called an extrusion machine, where it is heated to a viscous-liquid state, and then extruded through an extrusion head onto mirror calenders. The thickness of the resulting sheets depends on the size of the gap between the calenders. By adding dyes, colored organic glass is obtained. At the same time, the price for extruded plexiglass is slightly lower than for molded plexiglass, due to the lower production cost.

This material can be glued to other materials, sawed, drilled, laser cut, sanded, milled and stamped. Plexiglas is resistant to inorganic substances, acids and alkalis. Solvents for it are organic substances: ketones and ethers.

Organic glass and its application

The areas of application of acrylic glass are quite wide and multifaceted. Very often the material is used in industries such as:

  • medicine
  • industrial and civil glazing
  • aviation industry
  • chemical industry
  • lighting industry
  • food industry
  • livestock farming
  • production of technical parts
  • production of household products
  • production of advertising, exhibition and trade equipment
  • production of protective fences and devices
  • transport engineering
  • architecture and construction
  • modeling

As you can see, PMMA products are very popular. And all because the material is environmentally friendly, does not cause harm to the body, practically does not allow moisture to pass through, is resistant to UV radiation, has a high level of shock resistance and a wide operating temperature range.
