Silicone rubber

Silicone rubber is an elastic material with a working temperature range from -60°C to +230°, produced on the basis of high-molecular organosilicon compounds. This chemical structure gave silicone rubber high physical and mechanical characteristics:

– Heat resistance. The operating temperature range for the products is 150-230 °C. It is a normal working environment for silicone rubber; after exposure to high temperatures, it has low residual deformation and is resistant to combustion.

– Cold resistance. The elasticity of silicone is maintained down to -60 °C.

– Weather resistance. The material is not destroyed by temperature changes, ultraviolet and sunlight.

– Toxicological safety. Silicone is a chemically inert material, odorless and tasteless, does not emit harmful chemical compounds under the influence of temperatures, and there is no allergic effect.

– Anti-adhesive properties. Silicone has anti-adhesive properties in relation to a number of materials; when exposed to high temperatures, silicone rubber does not stick and does not leave marks.

The service life of silicone rubbers and their quality depend on the temperature and other conditions of use of the products. At a temperature of 120 ºС it is 10-20 years, at a temperature of 150 ºС – from 5 to 10 years, at a temperature of 200 ºС and more – from 2 to 5 years.

Application of silicone

The unique properties of silicone rubber determine a wide range of applications:

– Automotive industry. The resistance of such rubber to high temperatures and mechanical stress makes it possible to produce tubes, sealants, and hoses for car engines. Silicone tapes and strips are used for shock absorption and vibration damping.

– Cable and electrical industry. The dielectric properties and resistance of silicone to electromagnetic interference make it possible to produce sheathing for wires and cables, and putty for heating elements.

– Medical and pharmaceutical industry. Silicone made from rubber has bioinertness and a number of other properties. It is used to make products such as breast implants, patches and dressings, medical tubing and more.

– Products for contact with food and drinking water. The properties of silicone allow it to be used in the food industry. Heat-resistant material is used in the production of baking tins and molds, mugs, ladles and other kitchen utensils.

– Products for packaging. It is possible to use silicone rubber to make bags for freezing, storing and cooking food using the sous vide method (water bath). The surface of this rubber is non-porous, it does not allow moisture and odors to pass through and perfectly stores food for a long time as a vacuum bag.

– Technical products for food and household use.
