The range of applications of potassium carbonate is extensive. In the chemical industry, it is needed for the chemical synthesis of potassium compounds, in glassmaking – for the production of refractory glass, optical glass and crystal, in agriculture – for the production of potassium-containing fertilizers and additives in animal feed. Potassium carbonate is a constituent of liquid soaps, industrial liquid detergents, drilling fluids in oil production, developers in photography. Potassium carbonate is also used in the production of pigments and paints, in the textile industry – in the production of cloth, dyeing and processing of fabrics and leather dressing, in pharmaceuticals – in ointments and creams for the treatment of scabies, in antiparasitic drugs, in the food industry – as a food additive E501 (emulsifier, acidity regulator, desiccant, stabilizer, baking powder). Other areas of application of potassium carbotan: radio electronics, alcohol industry. The chemical is in demand for obtaining mixtures (emulsions) from oil or fat and water, it is added to baking soda and mortars and concretes, providing them with frost resistance.
Precautions:
When working with potassium carbonate carbon dioxide, protective clothing, footwear, respirators, goggles are used. Ventilation is installed in the working room or it is constantly ventilated. Bags with the substance are stored in sealed packaging in a dry, well-ventilated warehouse.
