Ethyl acetate is a compound of organic origin, the ethyl ester of acetic acid. It is a colorless liquid with a strong odor and a sweetish taste. The smell is very unusual: it reminds both something fruity and acetone at the same time. There are no mechanical impurities in the composition.
Synonyms: acetic ester, acetic ethyl ester, ethanoic acid ethyl ester. In the food industry, it is used under the name “additive E1504”.

Properties of ethyl acetate.

The composition is highly soluble in water, miscible with diethyl ether, ethyl, methyl, benzene and other organic solvents. And the acetic ester itself dissolves cellulose ethers, oil varnishes, waxes and fats well. The substance has a density of 0.902 g/cm3. Boiling point – 77 °C, melting point – 83 °C.

Ethyl Acetate : Specification and Application

Ethyl acetate is used in:

• in the production of cellulose, paints, adhesives, artificial leather – as a solvent;
• pharmaceutics – for the manufacture of various drugs;
• in the production of thin-sheet aluminum and foil from this alloy – it is used as a degreaser;
• electronics – to remove grease and dirt from printed circuit boards and other surfaces;
• food industry – production of beverages (softens the taste and smell of alcohol), confectionery, fruit essences, extraction of caffeine from coffee;
• entomology – in insect treatments;
• in the production of explosives – helps to give explosives the desired structure;
• as a raw material for cosmetology – in nail polish removers.

It is also possible to use ethyl acetate not in production, but in everyday life. It is used to clean surfaces from grease and dirt.
